Everyone's been writing about...

...this.... and this. Surprised to see pop stars gracing the covers of, respectively, BBC Music Magazine and Classic FM Magazine, I thought that as everyone else was getting their teeth into them, I could escape without covering either. My editor, though, has other ideas, so I've agreed to take about 48 hours to get to grips with the merits or otherwise of both, not to mention the principles (the which?) behind them. Watch this space.

Brian Micklethwait didn't really get on with Sting; Eammon Fitzgerald doesn't commit but has plenty of interesting comments to make. I, rather like Brian, do not warm to the sound but commend Sting's immersion in the spirit and music of the songs. So live, yes; to buy, try this.

As for Paul McCartney's new work, I'm very keen to hear your and others' views. I took part in the recording - which was jolly - and I'm involved in the Royal Albert Hall premiere on November 3, so I'll come back with some notes after that.

Thanks, Framescourer, and I enjoyed your Wed or Dead Blog here. Do let us know how the premiere goes, even if it's not a wedding or funeral?! My piece on Sting/McCartney will be out in a few days' time, so I'll post it then. Meanwhile, just to say I love the Beatles, so I liked this. Same guy, same 'voice', at least sometimes. And because it's essentially a tribute to a dead loved one, I related to it very strongly, having lost my parents and my sister.

by the way, I refer in my piece to that Andreas Scholl album you mention ("to buy, try this", above)!
