A good article by Morrison? A load of puff, more like it! "Barenboim has enjoyed more ovations than any other musician in history": what rubbish. He's not a patch on Sir Ginger stripes, for a start, as most Chicago concert goers will readily admit.
I admire Barenboim as a man - for his courage, physical and moral. But Morrison over-eggs his pudding: Barenboim was not humiliated when he couldn't come to an agreement with the Paris Opéra: he negociated £1,500,000 in compenasation, knowing too that he was off to lead in Chicago. Also, when Danny himself claims, "All other pianists have only a telephone book" he is forgetting Brendel and Charles Rosen for a start.
Emlyn - I very much agree with your points, and these parts o the interview I simply skipped out of irritation. What I found particularly interesting was his comments on Furtwängler and on Israel, in general. Nothing exactly new here, but quite well put.

Jessica, I agree, it´s a fantastic piece. Probably the best interview I´ve read with Barenboim. Thanks for posting!
