The answer is to part 1 is that since you are German you are bound to find Dutch easier than we English natives do. The answer to part 2 is that I have no idea.
Congratulations, Jessica. Re ViV's comment about Rite of Spring, this concerns a matter that has been discussed recently and more than once in blogs on high-quality crime fiction in languages other than English. I think it very likely that the decision of a foreign press to publish a fiction work in translation is taken only once the author's books have been deemed worthy by reviewers and proved, at least to some degree, popular with readers. (I should emphasize that the authors I have in mind are unlikely ever to appear in paperback.) What then happens is that the foreign press ploughs in with the latest offering from that author and, not at all slighting the earlier works, simply remains oddly unaware of them. This is a particular pain when the work accepted for translation features serial characters and themes that may have first appeared some books previously, a common thing in crime fiction, but it is rare that this does not happen. Once they find themselves with a success on their hands in your latest, they may well have the wise notion to read the earlier.
