Double Dutch courage!
Pliable at the Overgrown Path has good news today from our friends in Holland: the culture minister has stepped in to save Concertzender! Pliable suggests that this has not a little to do with the power of blogging to marshal support.
Not quite...due to 480 pages of ms needing finalisation before typesetting, I just didn't manage to get on the case sooner. Slippeddisc had the seeds of the story in late September. Overgrown Path has been the big campaigner - no wonder, since Pliable is associated with an admirable independent internet radio station.
Well... It's not a done deal yet... Let's say it's 1-1 at the moment (a draw...) Minister Plasterk said that he would look if the "contributions" of the Concertzender could be preserved. "Minister Ronald Plasterk van Cultuur gaat er bij de Raad van Bestuur van de Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO) op aandringen dat de bijdragen van de Concertzender op de radio behouden blijven. " ("Culture Minister Ronald Plasterk urged the board of directors of the Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO), that the contributions of the Concertzender areretained on the radio.")
He did NOT say the Concertzender will be preserved. Even scarier, The Npo wants to split up the Concertzender over other Dutch broadcasters: http://radioactive.blog.nl/binnenland/2008/11/18/minister-plasterk-wil-concertzender-behouden
At the same time, Ruurd Bierman of the NPO is commenting:
http://dutchmedia.nl/blog/?p=1374 Bierman erkent dat de themakanalen radio - die voortaan via omroepverenigingen zullen lopen - mogelijk onderwerp van discussie kunnen worden van bezuinigingsrondes die per 2010 mogelijk moeten worden uitgevoerd.
(In 2010 there will be buget cut's and the themechannels "could be a discussion in the financial reductions of 2010")
So, even if plasterk saves the program's of the Concertzender, they probably will be cut by the NPO in 2010.
There will be a debate in the Dutch parliament next monday. Parliament member Boris van der Ham has asked minister Plasterk if in his statement he communicated that the CZ would be devided, or saved.
I hope this innovative channel can stay! It would be so unfair if they had to be devided because their listing figures were a threat to radio 4 a 6 (the basics of the conflict; cable compagnies would rather have the CZ than radio 6)

The manager of radio 4 and 6 then urged the dissapearance of the Concertzender:
